Lily Stelling

Untitled

I am starting to pick out the flavours in the sauce
I am starting to pick out Beethoven, and Liszt

I have learned the meaning and usage of ‘on the nose’
I have learned enough openings to play online chess

I will read enough poems, until I can write one
I will wear enough scarves, until I can knit one

I will soon ride bikes, and play guitar
I will soon sail boats, and go to Nelson

I am waiting to learn words like stalactites, or alloys, or brogues
I am waiting to be a star at the pub quiz
I am waiting to find an appealing rug

I can only hope that I’ll read Tolstoy and Pynchon
I can only hope that I’ll poach an egg

Each night, I watch more movies.
I have a long time left.
