Helena Crawford

Electric Anatomy

I took apart a computer,
without really knowing
what I was doing
just reaching into empty ribs
and unplugging veins.

No-one knew how to dissect
our old friends
dead from age and Windows XP
but we had to have our cadavers
back in the morgue
three-fifteen sharp,
skin screwed back on.

Helena Crawford is a Year 13 student from Wanaka. Her work has previously appeared in a number of publications, including Write On magazine, the NZATE Poetry Anthology and Re-Draft.
